DESCRIPTION

BPL (Broadband Power Line) Modem is part of Nuri Telecom’s family of end-to-end AiMiR Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) connectivity solutions for the Commercial and Industrial metering application segment. They transform standalone smart electricity meters into an integral part of the Smart Grid network.

Nuri's AiMiR BPL Data Modem is connected to a meter via RS232 or RS485 serial port. The modem communicates meter data including LP (Load Profile), Current Max/Regular Max demand and Outage/Recovery Log data from the meter(s) either in the AiMiR BPL AMI network or from a single meter and feed the traffic to the AiMiR Head End Systems. The Head End Systems are located at the Utility control center. The meter data from the BPL Modem is sent over the digital cellular or WAN connections. The modem provides metering data as per schedule or on demand from a specific and/or all meters in the network.

BPL Modem is designed to IEEE standard 802.11a, operates in 5 GHz band, and uses a 52-subcarrier a fault tolerant OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology with a maximum data rate of 54 Mbit/s. Using OFDM technology prevents issues related to high attenuation and noise synonymous to Power Line Communications.

Nuri's BPL Modem provides standalone meters with bidirectional communication capability, making networking simple and easy to deploy. It allows utilities to take advantage of a wide range of cutting-edge Smart Grid applications, including advanced metering, outage and restoration detection, demand response, innovative tariffs, remote connect and disconnect, andmore. Collecting usage data in discrete time intervals allows utilities to charge time-differentiated rates for electricity usage.
